So, I no longer work for Digital Cyclone
posted by Ray @ 9:07 pm in [ Stuff - Work ]

Since I’ve been posting most the messages on Amy’s blog, maybe I should rename it to Ray’s blog (and get rid of the chick & make it more manly or something).

Anyway.. As I said.. I no longer work for Digital Cyclone. It’s kind of sad. I’ve worked there for 6 years and 3 months, which is the longest I’ve ever been employed at the same place. (A virtual lifetime when it comes to an IT job .) I treated DCI like I owned the place. I helped raise it from 4 employees and near certain bankruptcy into a $45 million dollar company. (It’s a great story, if anyone is interested in hearing it.)

Today (January 5th, 2007), Digital Cyclone, Inc. was purchased by Garmin International. I had to update the DCI website with the press release. Check it out here.

So now I work for Garmin International.

What did Garmin get for $45 mil? I believe they got a great deal. The knowledge DCI has when it comes to mobile application development and marketing is second to none. Very few companies have managed to make it into the “walled garden” and have this much success with the wireless carriers. It took some serious dedication and a lot of hard work to get there. Have you ever referred to an employee as a “machine”? DCI has more than the average number of machines-per-employee turning it’s gears. Garmin now has access to this machinery.

For those who don’t know, Garmin deals primarily in GPS units. They even make them for motorcycles. Only problem is that I don’t see any models outfitted in chrome. (Now that I work there, who do I call to get that done?) Here I go around acting like I own the place again…
